Java SE Embedded is available as a free download for evaluation and development, and requires a commercial license for use in production. The JDK is available for download under the Oracle Binary Code License Agreement (BCL). These embedded-specific features and support currently include new Compact Profiles, new jrecreate customization tool, new jdeps size analysis tool, additional platforms, small footprint JREs, headless configurations and memory optimizations. Additionally, it provides specific features and support for the embedded market. It supports the same platforms and functionality as Java SE. Java SE Embedded is a subset of the JDK and includes only the JREs. The JDK includes a Java runtime environment (JRE) for ARM platforms and tools such as the compilers and debuggers necessary for developing applications. How is JDK for ARM different from Java SE Embedded? JDK 7 for ARM is supported on systems based on ARM v6 or ARM v7 running Linux. The JDK includes tools useful for developing and testing programs written in the Java programming language and running on the Java platform.
